My Top 12 Twelfth Doctor Moments Part I

Series 10 marks the final season of The Twelfth Doctor (Peter Capaldi) and I thought with Series 10 hitting our TV screens in a month why not celebrate the best moments of The Twelfth Doctor!

Peter Capaldi’s Twelfth Doctor has had his ups and downs, but he has also had some incredible moments that showcased his talent as an actor. It’s time to celebrate The best moments of The Twelfth Doctor! Here is My Top 12 Twelfth Doctor Moments split into 3 parts, here is part one!

12. The Twelfth Doctor VS. The Half-Face Man

A newly regenerated Doctor must face off against a clock-work droid in Victorian London (and reunites with Jenny, Strax and Madame Vastra) who has been trying to repair his ship by using human body parts. The Doctor disguises himself as a droid and saves Clara from The Half-Face Man in the nick of time! His first Doctor moment is awesome and he has some great lines too!

Twelfth Doctor: “Hello hello! Rubbish robots from the dawn of time! 5’1″ and crying you never stood a chance, and you’re out of your depth sir never try to control a control freak.”

The Twelfth Doctor then goes on to talk to The Half Face Man (who believes in reaching paradise ie the afterlife) and tells him that there is no paradise and that he knows he won’t reach paradise.  At one point during their conversation Twelve remarks how The Half-Face Man has changed his body parts so many times and then he says “….you probably don’t even recognize where you got that face from!” For a split second Twelve looks into a dinner tray and has this moment where he realizes that same sentence can be applied to him. It’s a very poignant scene and shows how this new Doctor doesn’t know who he is and it’s a really powerful moment and sad as well.

11. The Twelfth Doctor Trying to Comfort a Young Danny Pink

In Series 8 Episode 4 “Listen,” The Twelfth Doctor is obsessed with a creature that cannot be detected and has evolved to be very adept at hiding. This obsession leads Twelve and Clara to an orphanage in the 90’s where they meet Rupert Pink. Rupert encounters a mysterious figure on his bed and tells the Doctor it scares him. Twelve replies:

“Let me tell you about scared. Your heart is beating so hard — I can feel it through your hands! There’s so much blood and oxygen pumping through your brain, it’s like rocket fuel. Right now, you could run faster and you could fight harder. You can jump higher than ever in your life. And you are so alert, it’s like you can slow down time. What’s wrong with scared? Scared is a super power! It’s your super power! There is danger in this room, and guess what? It’s you…”

This moment is great because even though Twelve seems a bit more rude and mean, he still cares about helping people and he is still great with kids. This shows that the Doctor will always have compassion for others and it is what sets him apart from his many enemies.

10. The Twelfth Doctor Showing His “No Second Chances” Side

In Series 8 Episode 9 “Flatline,” Twelve and Clara encounter two dimensional creatures who are invading our world and are trying to become three dimensional beings. After killing countless people and wreaking havoc on a group of community service workers, Twelve (who was revived by Clara) realizes it’s time to stop these evil creatures once and for all and shows them who is boss!

The Doctor: “I tried to talk, I want you to remember that. I tried to reach out, I tried to understand you but I think you understand us perfectly. I think you just don’t care! I don’t know if you are here to invade, infiltrate or just replace us, I don’t suppose it really matters now, you are monsters! That is the role it seems you are determined to play so it seems I must play mine! The man that stops the monsters! I’m sending you back to your own dimension. Who knows? Some of you may even survive the trip. And if you do, remember this: YOU are not welcome here! This plane is protected! I am the Doctor and I name you the Boneless!”
The Twelfth Doctor then uses his sonic screwdriver to banish The Boneless back to their own dimension! This is a great moment because it shows that the Doctor is willing to go to any lengths to protect people from dangerous threats. You only get one warning with this Doctor, because he has lived too long to let his enemies win! He tried to understand the creatures, and even tried to communicate with them but they just wanted to invade our world, well be warned never mess with the Doctor! He is The Oncoming Storm!
9. The Twelfth Doctor Forgives Clara
In Series 8 Episode 11 “Dark Water,” Clara Oswald loses the love of her life Danny Pink and she tries to get the Doctor to help her get him back, whatever it takes and she will go to whatever lengths to get him back including threatening to destroy The TARDIS!
After Clara finds out she had been played by the Doctor (who had control of the situation the entire time) she thinks the Doctor is mad when he tells her to go to hell. It turns out the Doctor meant they will go wherever Danny ended up, even hell. Clara confused asks why the Doctor would help her after she betrayed him. The Doctor replies
This shows that the Doctor really cares for Clara and won’t let her emotions getting the better of her prevent him from helping her in her time of need. Twelve may be rude and mean at times, but he is also a compassionate, caring and loving man who is loyal to his companions no matter what.
Well this concludes Part I! Part II will be up shortly!
What say you? Do you agree with my list? Do you have a favorite Twelfth Doctor moment? Whatever your thoughts let me know!
