Wayward Pines Season 1 Review (10/10)

Lately I’ve been trying to get into some new shows, and one show I was very hesitant to get into was the new mystery/suspense show, Wayward Pines. At the recommendation of some friends, co-workers and my brother, I finally decided to watch it, and all I can say is, the hype surrounding this show is justified!

Wayward Pines is a television series based on the Wayward Pines novels by Blake Crouch. The series focuses on U.S. Secret Service Agent Ethan Burke (Matt Dillon) who is investigating the disappearance of two other Secret Service Agents, Kate Hewson (Carla Gugino) and Bill Evans. Ethan’s investigation takes him to the town of Wayward Pines, Idaho, which is very strange, and really gives off this Pleasantville vibe. The citizens of the town are forced to adhere to strict rules one of which is that citizens are not allowed to talk about their past. The people of Wayward Pines just seem so fake and act as if they are being controlled which is something Agent Burke picks up on pretty quickly. Agent Burke butts heads with Sheriff Pope (Terrence Howard) and the Sheriff tells Agent Burke not to keep digging into the disappearance of Agents Hewson and Evans. Agent Burke continues to find answers and what he discovers is worse than he could have possibly imagined.

I really enjoyed Wayward Pines, the characters are interesting, the plot is interesting and the acting is superb. This show reminded me a lot of LOST (before it went downhill) and really did a great job of teasing you with little bits of information, and leaves enough to keep you guessing! When you finally do find out the truth about Wayward Pines, I guarantee you will not see it coming! It’s not really original, but it’s different and is not what you will expect. I don’t want to spoil anything, because it’s best to go into it without any foreknowledge, but suffice to say the twists are great! Season 1 is only 10 episodes, so you will blow right through it, you will find yourself getting addicted to it because you will be saying to yourself “I need to know what the hell is going on with this strange town!” Haha

If you are looking for a great new show to get into, or are just looking for a good mystery/suspense/thriller type of show, then you should definitely check out Wayward Pines. The show has a great cast including Toby Jones, who people may remember as The Dream Lord in Series 5 of Doctor Who, and as Arnim Zola in Captain America 1 and and Academy Award winning actress, Melissa Leo.

What say you? Have you seen Wayward Pines? Do you have any interest in watching Wayward Pines? Whatever your thoughts let me know!
