Ant-Man Quick Movie Review (9/10)

So I finally had a chance to see the latest Marvel movie, which focuses on one of the most bizarre superheros to be shown on the big screen. I am of course talking about Marvel Studios’ Ant-Man!

Now I will be honest, I had low expectations going into this film. I thought Marvel couldn’t keep pumping out good movies, but boy was I wrong! I am pleased to say that not only is Ant-Man a good Marvel film, it’s also just a good standalone film, probably the best since the first Iron Man film that came out way back in 2008.

Ant-Man stars Paul Rudd as Scott Lang, a master thief who after spending years in prison is trying to go straight so that he can be a part of his daughter’s life. Scott ends up being recruited by former Ant-Man Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) who needs someone to take up the mantle of the Ant-Man in order to stop Pym’s former protege Darren Cross (Corey Stoll) from weaponizing the shrinking technology that Pym invented.

I really enjoyed Ant-Man, the acting was good, especially Paul Rudd, he is awesome! Michael Douglas is a scene stealer as Hank Pym, the original Ant-Man!  The special effects were incredible, especially when Ant-Man shrinks, the way they filmed those scenes is just flawless and the characters (minus Hope Van Dyne and Darren Cross) are pretty fleshed out.

Actually the scenes where Ant-Man shrinks reminded me a bit of “Honey I Shrunk The Kids!” but in the best way possible! Ant-Man is a welcome addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the superhero team The Avengers! Paul Rudd was an inspired choice and I think he will bring something unique to the future films that he appears in. I cannot wait to see him in Captain America: Civil War!

For those people who are worried that Ant-Man will seem like a useless superhero especially in terms of joining The Avengers, fear not his character fits into the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) just perfectly. Ant-Man does not feel shoe-horned into the Marvel Universe and he is actually pretty bad-ass too! Also be on the lookout for references to different superheroes as well as some great mid-credits and post-credits scenes!

As far as Marvel films go, Ant-Man is easily in My Top 5, with Guardians of The Galaxy and The Winter Soldier just ranked slightly higher.

If you are a fan of heist films, or just fun movies, or great origin stories, then Ant-Man is right up your alley!

What say you? Have you seen Ant-Man? If so, what did you think? Are you excited to see him in future Avengers’ films? Whatever your thoughts let me know!
